The Savannah Cat is a relatively new breed of hybrid cat. Savannah Cats where produced by breeding an African Serval cat with a domestic cat.The purpose of this hybrid breed is to provide people with a large cat with looks of an African Serval, but acts domestic. Savannah cats are considered one of the larger breeds of domesticated cats. Savannah cats are very popular and in high demand.

Savannah cats have an exotic look unlike anyother hybrid cat breed. Savannah cats are tall, lean, have huge ears, long necks, spots, and dramatic markings much like the African Serval, but smaller in size. The Savannah's tall and slim build gives the appearance of greater size than their actual weight. A savannah cat has been named the tallest cat in The Guinness Book of World Records for 2010.
Savannah cats have a remarkable personality despite of their wild appearance. They follow you around and want to be involved in your activities much like dogs do. Many Savannah have no fear of water and may actually hop in the tub with you. Some earlier generation Savannah cats do a behavior I call, “The Happy Dance”. During this “dance”, they hop around and twitch their tail. Savannah’s may do this over their toys, playing, favorite treats, or because their happy to see us. Earlier generations may even hiss while doing this “dance” (NOT hissing out of anger though!!) Excitement hissing is also inherited by the Serval.
Savannah cats are very intelligent this is another reason they are so popular. Savannah cats have been known to open drawers to retrieve their toys, and open doors. These smart hybrid cats can be trained to walk on a leash, play fetch, or even use the toilet! They learn routines very quickly and are easily taught what they can and cannot do.Savannah cats also love to talk! They have a large vocabulary and many sounds they make. Savannah Cats can make chirping sounds like a Serval and various pitches of meows.
The name of the Savannah Cat refers to the habitat of the Serval - The Savannahs in Africa.
